The A400 is the first portable kit to feel and sound like a regular drum kit. The drums are constructed from a very high quality and durable A.B.S. and are fitted with Remo heads, steel counter hoops and are tuned with the traditional multi screw tuning system.

The A400 Traps kit retains the original concept of a lightweight, highly portable kit, but with some important additional features and improved quality. The kit features a bass drum with two heads, providing a deep, thick sound, which is strong and realistic whilst the ultra-sturdy chrome tubular rack system makes the kit very robust and holds all the drums firmly in the correct playing position.
The Traps drums have genuine Remo heads which clarify and improve the sound, plus they are designed to fit most manufacturer's heads and are fitted with industry standard, universally accepted traditional multi screw tuning system. A sturdy, adjustable and foolproof snare throw-off enables four toms to be brought into play. The specifically designed tom holders now have replaceable inner parts, and it now has hexagonal non-slip mounting arms for toms and bass.
Now supplied with upgraded superior pedal, snare basket and boom arms. The steel counterhoops offer the facility to fit sound deadening practise pads to both drums and cymbals. The double braced hardware is also of a high standard giving the kit an overall spec, which is exceptionally high for this price range.
An ideal choice as it sounds absolutely superb.

TOMS:

Toms - 3 Sizes, 10", 12" and 14".

All fitted with Remo Asia Ambassador heads, chrome plated steel counter hoops. ABS moulded shell with integral mounting system.
These Traps toms have a thickness, tone and clarity to their sound which has never been found before in a portable set. This is due not only to the design and meticulous construction of their ABS shells, but also to the rigidity of their triple-flange counter-hoops and not least to the resilience of the quality Remo Pinstripe heads fitted. The fact that the drums have these traditional steel counter-hoops allows for use of the Industry standard and universally accepted, traditional multi-screw tuning system as well as the fitting of pads for silent practice to all the drums. Something not possible with portable sets around this price point before.
BASS:

The double-headed bass drum is unique in this sort of set and the thing which first grabs people's attention. Its twin heads give a much more realistic sound which in turn complements the sound of the music it's being used for. The drum has a sturdy metal plate firmly bolted to its rear counter hoop and is set up so the foot pedal's beater strikes at the optimum point, the very top of the upstroke. (On some other drum sets the beater strikes the head rather awkwardly beyond top-dead-centre.) Again this drum is fitted with Remo heads: a Powerstroke 3 on the playing side and an Ebony logo'd one on the front.
SNARE:

Traps snare drum has a very crisp yet ballsy sound. It uses eight square-headed tension screws per head so tunes easily and the same steel counter hoops as all the other drums for cutting rim shots and thick X-stick sounds. This drum has a sturdy positive throw-off, (with an adjuster at the opposite end to stretch the wires) to allow the player to release the snares to produce 'Latin/world percussion' sounds as well as giving the opportunity for an extra tom to be brought into play when the need arises. You guessed it - the snare drum has Remo heads with an industry standard coated Ambassador on the playing side and a see-through version on the underside.
HARDWARE:

The updated hardware supplied with Traps A400 is streets ahead of anything we've seen before on a set at this price. Bass drum and hi hat pedals are heavy-duty, rugged and free-moving, snare baskets, boom cymbal arms and drummer's throne are all constructed from triple-plated, wide-bored tubing. They have unique little touches which make them stand out from the crowd: branded footplates, ergonomic T-screws, embossed seat squabs, as well as the usual collection of quality chain drives, memory locks, expansion springs, clutches and cymbal toppers. A really neat touch is that the new tubular boom arms disappear into their tubes to enable them to be stowed away easily for transportation.
RACK MOUNTING SYSTEM

Multifunctional joints offering many different set ups for left or right handed players.
Obviously the sparkling chrome, ultra-sturdy tubular rack system to hold all the drums firmly in the correct playing position was the first thing we noticed when we saw the set. This is the one item, which has been missing from any portable drum set and as suppliers; we know many have suffered from a problem with stability. The bass drum in particular on other sets had an annoying propensity to move away from the player but Traps' rack system puts paid to all that. It's bass, toms, snare and cymbals are all joined to the rack so nothing moves when you hit it. These same tom holders hold the bass drum in position and all have a hexagonal steel rod to place the drums in the optimum playing position and more importantly keep them there all through the gig. Other sets use cylindrical mounting L-rods, which inevitably allow the drum or cymbal to slip once they become worn. Traps also have the distinct advantage of using their own superior, specifically designed tom holders with rugged blue plates and replaceable inner steel parts, instead of cast sandwich-type holders with a highly-annoying propensity to strip threads.

At last we've found a bunch of portable drums which sound like a regular drum set. Traps drums are assembled here in the UK and built from the best possible materials. Alchemy, who make the industrial strength ABS parts used in the Traps set, are also involved in making various other parts for the likes of Porsche, Aston Martin, Carlsberg, Stella Artois and many others - so they have quite a pedigree.
Visually the new set is even more exciting, distinctive, attractive, professional and with a reassuring solid look.
